We're in the middle of two wars.
The way to pay for those wars is through taxes.
In 1943, in the midst of World War Two, the Walt Disney company put out this video starring Donald Duck to explain why "every American should pay their income tax, gladly and proudly."

Would that this had been the spirit of the 43rd President.
Instead, we got: "Spend it: it's your dough!"
(Although I must say that this style of propaganda would be disturbing today.)
