Republicans are exceptionally prudish.
Quite a contrast to the Democrats at Pride Parade.
I think this is an angle that helps Dems win over more people. Republicans should be embarrassed that they covered up the breast of a statute.
UPDATE: I have to peel back my statement above: of course, not *all* Republicans, or even most Republicans are exceptionally prudish. Tom Cross' Jake Parillo nailed me on it here, along with commenters. It is true, though that some GOPers do back very prudish policies, and this might be an opportunity for Dems to identify with the larger and growing group of culturally tolerant.

What a broad stereotype! Anyway, you're on to something, but I'm not sure this kind of stuff helps Democrats win votes. Don't take this the wrong way -- I actually totally support non-straight people -- but there's a lot more prudes out there than there are gays. There's probably more people who are comfortable with prudishness than are comfortable with homosexuality.
Isn't the conventional wisdom that the Republicans carried the day in the last election because they riled people up about gay marriage?
Living in cosmopolitan Chicago, it's easy to think to youself, "What's wrong with Kansas?" But, remember, the people in Kansas are also thinking, "What's wrong with Chicago?"

Yeah, the statement was overly broad. I disagree that there are more people comfortable with covering up a statue (yes -- not a statute -- nice catch, anon) then comfortable with gays. I could be wrong (I often am), but that's my gut. And I did like that right-wing article I linked to in order to get a photo. Kind of funny.
That's true, FightFor. The corporate media do tend to downplay the crazy aspects of the parade. Most of the TV stations are part of the parade. I guess they are more culturally tolerant than they are economically progressive.
Here are the first two para's from the Onion's story on Pride Parade setting acceptance back ten years. It's hysterical and has more than a grain of truth:
WEST HOLLYWOOD, CA—The mainstream acceptance of gays and lesbians, a hard-won civil-rights victory gained through decades of struggle against prejudice and discrimination, was set back at least 50 years Saturday in the wake of the annual Los Angeles Gay Pride Parade.
"I'd always thought gays were regular people, just like you and me, and that the stereotype of homosexuals as hedonistic, sex-crazed deviants was just a destructive myth," said mother of four Hannah Jarrett, 41, mortified at the sight of 17 tanned and oiled boys cavorting in jock straps to a throbbing techno beat on a float shaped like an enormous phallus. "Boy, oh, boy, was I wrong."
